OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY
Set the scene.
The Malta Railway began operating on 28 February 1883 and closed on 31 March 1931. It ran for 48 years.
Here’s the twist.
Its route linked Valletta with inland settlements and the Rabat area, with an extension towards Mtarfa. Surviving station heritage keeps parts of that route legible.
Why it still matters.
Birkirkara’s station building is central to the local railway museum project. A familiar garden or building can be a clue to a vanished transport system.
