Fort St Angelo began as a medieval stronghold and later became the Order of St John’s headquarters. Its position commands the Grand Harbour.

Under British naval use, the shore establishment was named HMS St Angelo. A naval name did not turn the stone fortress into a floating vessel.
Why it still matters.
It remained connected with the Royal Navy until 1979. The same walls link medieval power, the Knights and British military history.
